We lost a legend today. My heart breaks to learn that Tom Petty has passed away. I was out of town last week and missed his last show of his tour at the Hollywood Bowl. I am heartbroken but so grateful for his music. He is an icon, a true creative genius, and a legend. And I feel so lucky to have been to so many of Petty’s shows and experience his genius. Tom Petty’s final show for me was at the MusiCares Gala in May of this year. Not surprisingly, Petty was named 2017 MusiCares Person of the Year for his music that truly changes lives.
Tom Petty’s Final Show
Petty’s performance at the 2017 MusiCares Pre-Grammy Gala was incredibly special. To watch this legend up close and personal was a moment I will never forget. The Foo Fighters, Gary Clark Jr., The Lumineers, The Head and the Heart, Norah Jones, Cage the Elephant, and Stevie Nicks all came out to honor the 3 time Grammy winner. Petty was honored for his creative perfection and his wonderful charitable work. The benefit gala supports those in the music industry in times of need. It’s really a fantastic cause and it’s no wonder Petty was honored. Petty gave an incredibly heart felt speech that night and his performance was off the charts. He said he ‘realized I may actually be in one of the best two or three rock and roll bands there is.” Yes, you sure are.
Petty perfomed many of his top hits, including “Waiting For Tonight,”, “Insider”, “Don’t Come Around Here No More”, “Stop Dragging My Heart Around”, “Insider”, and “Runnin’ Down a Dream”. It was just magic. He performed with the Bangles and with Stevie Nicks. I could have stayed to watch him play until the sun came up. This creative powerhouse lives on through his beautiful songs, and we will miss him terribly.
