6 Health Benefits of Blueberries

  1. Cancer fighter:

Wild blueberries are the smaller variety of blueberries and are the richest in antioxidants. Blueberries overall are thought to have the highest amount of antioxidants out of all fruit and veggies. These baby blues are loaded with vitamin C, fiber, vitamin K and manganese. DNA damage is also reduced with blueberries. DNA damage causes cancer and premature aging.

  2. Brain booster:

Blueberries make you smarter? Yep! It’s those antioxidants. Oxidative stress can cause cognitive impairment. Blueberries and strawberries have both been shown to boost memory and slow down cognitive aging. So, the young AND the elderly should be eating their berries!

  3. Blood Sugar Control:

These berries are so low in sugar, they actually reduce blood sugar levels. Fantastic for a diabetic, blueberries have bioactive compounds to help with insulin sensitivity. Did you know Type 2 Diabetes is one of the largest health concerns today? Blueberries can lower your risk with powerful anthocyanins.

  4. Heart health:

Once again, the antioxidants play a role here. Blueberries will help decrease oxidized LDL (bad cholesterol), which will protect your heart from disease. They are also known to reduce blood pressure.

  5. Weight Loss:

These little guys are low calorie but nutrient dense. So you can eat a ton of them and not feel guilty!

  6. Skin Glow:

Blueberries are made up of a whopping amount of water, so they’ll leave you more hydrated and more content than you would think these little berries would. Also, the flavonoids found in blueberries are an antioxidant that do wonders for your skin health.

Yep, it’s hard to believe such a tiny fruit could be so powerful. And these are just the TOP 6 Health Benefits in my opinion…there are many more!  Thankfully, my baby boy loves them. He eats them so fast, he can’t get enough!

It’s the perfect way to start the week so when Monday morning comes around we are refreshed and ready to conquer the world…well, at least we try!

My blueberry lemon scones taste like such a treat with lemon tea and they are vegan and gluten-free. Easy to make and healthy are my two cooking requirements!
