Raising babies, feeding babies, getting babies to sleep…every parent has their own philosophy and that’s what makes the world go ’round. As parents, we can drive ourselves crazy making sure we’re doing everything right. Is it best to spoon feed purees or try baby led weaning? Is breastfeeding the best and for how long? And the most often asked question I get is, “Is a plant-based diet going to provide enough nutrition for my baby?” I’m constantly sharing my plant-based baby food recipes with friends because they see what a good eater my 10 month old boy is.
Adopting a plant-based lifestyle takes a little more time and effort but the rewards are so great. I feel happier, stronger and more energetic following a vegan diet and my baby is one happy boy! He has rolls for days, he is healthy, energetic and sleeps like a dream. He started solids at 6 months old and is still breastfeeding. After all, it’s the most nutritious and least expensive vegan milk out there! 😉
So, what do we feed him on a daily basis?
BABY FOOD RECIPES
My baby boy loves blueberries, so I always have frozen and fresh on hand. I give him a 1/2 cup and he just munches away and usually begs for more, or I put them in different recipes to mix things up! I hate getting bored of the same food. Some of his favorite blueberry breakfasts are:
I’m constantly rotating different fresh fruits, whole grains and plant based proteins including:
oats (He loves my chocolate peanut butter cup overnight oats)
chia pudding (I make A LOT of chia puddings and my baby just loves it!)
breakfast fruit bowls like my Pumpkin Breakfast Bowl
veggie sausage patties
toast with peanut or almond butter
Lunchtime is a fun time. My baby takes a nice long morning nap so he is really rejuvenated and ready to use his brain and his tastebuds to explore food.
We like a little kick of spice in this house so we often have my Spicy Tofu Scramble for lunch.
I like to also add in:
tortillas and vegan cheese
watermelon (his favorite next to blueberries!) 🙂
My baby doesn’t often need a snack, but if he does it’s usually around 3pm and I give him:
1/2 cup berries
tortilla with vegan cheese
Dinner is EVERYTHING in our house. We like to really set the mood. Daddy comes home and takes the baby on a walk while I make dinner. We play music, dance, laugh and then sit down to a good meal. We like to keep dinnertime refined, with the lights a little dimmed and soothing music like Bill Evans playing during dinner! It’s amazing to watch our baby enjoy his food and the tastes and textures, while listening to our conversation. He often chimes in! 😉
So, what’s on the table for dinner?
We love everything Italian, a little spicy, and very colorful. The last few recipes that were a hit were:
We love to offer lots of veggies so I always make sides of:
baby potatoes (like my Roasted Rosemary Potatoes)
organic steamed broccoli
organic steamed carrots
I hope this helps to inspire you to make a few more plant based baby food recipes! What are your babies favorite foods?
